Independent contractor to TQG to deliver training and consulting on the blended e-learning model using curriculums developed for Six Sigma, SPC, Lean, and Statistics. Duties include introducing colleges to the TQG curriculum, building the network of community and technical colleges participating in the TQG model, assist colleges in marketing courses, and arranging technical support as necessary. Additionally, I am an instructor for the Six Sigma curriculum.

This program included the following Technologies: Machining, Civil Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Drafting, Architectural, Interior Design, Surveying, and the CAD/CAM Center. 16 faculty and staff were assigned to this area. For Spring ’03, Machining increased enrollment 11% over Spring ’02. Spring ’02 enrollment increased 40% over Spring ’01. Architectural Engineering and Interior Design were at capacity and additional space was requested for Fall ’03. I started an Engineering Technology Division alumni newsletter and endowment. Additionally, I was assigned to the WorkKeys and KeyTrain projects plus assist the Teacher Assistant project team as part of the No Child Left Behind initiative. The Manufacturing Technology Apprenticeship program was an additional responsibility.

This position included several areas of workforce development including WorkKeys, KeyTrain, local Workforce Investment Board and Job Link Center committee work, the ACT Center, NC Stars website, WIDS/Competency Based Curriculum Project, and the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools-Teacher Assistant project as part of the “No Child Left Behind” legislation.

I took over this program with $0.0 in revenue and $300,000 in expenses. For FY 96-97 (ending June 1997), the program had $310,000 in revenue and $210,000 in expenses. This program included Machine Tool, the South Carolina Manufacturing Extension Partnership (SCMEP), the National Coalition of Advanced Technology Centers (NCATC), and an Environment/Safety/OSHA regulations program.

This program began with a budget of $550,000 and grew to the FY 00-01 budget of $1,050,000. Revenues exceeded expenses each year. There were four centers each managed by a Training Director I. The centers were:

  • Environment – Health – Safety including industrial health.
  • Manufacturing Development including Work Keys profiles and assessments, apprenticeships, small business development, and the South Carolina Manufacturing Extension Partnership (SCMEP).
  • Industry/Trades including welding, HVAC, and small engine repair.
  • Advanced Technology including machine tool, CNC, grants, special projects, and the National Coalition of Advanced Technology Centers (NCATC) board member.
